Fue el primer sacerdote, por esta razón, se considera el señor de los sacerdotes, es considerado como el patrón del conocimiento, su misión era educar a la población maya y ayudarles a darle sentido a su mundo. Itzamná guardaba gran amor hacia la humanidad.
