プロの講師🌈Helping Your Child Learn English Beyond Online Classes 🌈
Hello italki community! 👋
As an English teacher with years of experience teaching children of all ages, I know that learning a language isn’t just about attending classes—it’s also about creating a supportive environment at home. Here are some practical tips to help your child improve their English outside online lessons:
🪐 Make English a Part of Daily Life
Label common objects at home with their English names. (Plants, furniture etc.)
Encourage simple conversations in English during routine activities like cooking or shopping.
🪐 Fun and Interactive Media
I know, I know... Cartoons are something most of us would like to avoid, but hey, let's be fair: kids do waych them anyway, so let them watch those in English! There are lots of age/aesthetic appropriate soft color/pace cartoons! (e.g. Little Princess of Ben&Holly's Little Kingdom)
For toddlers play English songs and nursery rhymes—they’re perfect for pronunciation and rhythm.
🪐Reading Together
Read short stories or picture books in English.
Ask them questions about the story to build comprehension and speaking skills.
🪐 Board Games & DIY Activities
Play English-language board games like Scrabble, Guess Who, or Pictionary to make learning fun.
Try DIY projects where they follow instructions in English—crafts, simple experiments, or cooking recipes.
🪐 Consistency Over Quantity
Even 10–15 minutes a day makes a huge difference!
Encourage curiosity rather than forcing long sessions—they learn best when it’s fun.
💡 Bonus Tip: Celebrate every effort! Language learning is a journey, and children thrive on encouragement and positivity.
If you’d like, I can share a few of my favorite English-learning board games and DIY activities that children love and parents can easily do at home.
What strategies have worked for your kids? Share your tips—I’d love to hear them! 👇
