7.29 The Deliveryman Recently, a video post online went viral on the internet. It shows a deliveryman of restaurant got heavily scolded by a customer for being late for an hour and a half. That customer who had ordered some food from this restaurant was throwing a party in his apartment, and he was furious when finally seeing the deliveryman because all his friends had left by the time the food arrived. But there was a reason for his lateness. Beijing was having a downpour on that day, and the roads got so congested that everyone and everything was delayed. The customer, however, showed the least care of it. He humiliated the deliveryman by saying he deserved this poorly-paid job because the way he looked. At the end, he even threw all the food outside the door, and asked the deliveryman to go away. The video was secretly shot by a neighbor, with the final part showing the deliveryman picked up the food in silence and left. Most viewers of this video were enraged by such outright rudeness. How can someone be so cruel and disrespectful to others? And take the least amount of pity on someone at the bottom rank of the society. Just because they spend the money to buy his service doesn’t mean they can trample upon his dignity at will. It is sad to see that there are some wealthy people in the society who think so highly of themselves that they believe this wealth entitles them to the privilege equivalent to masters in the slavery time. So you can see sometimes a waiter gets yelled at because the dishes are not satisfactory; a bus driver is scolded because of a bump on the road, and cleaners on the streets get shoveled because they dare to ask the noble pedestrians to pick up their thrash. I hate to see this. Yes! People are not really equal in the real world, and you can choose not to be their friends, but don’t hurt their hearts.
