The great philosopher, Socrates, once said this (phrase) :"Know thyself". I find it easy to understand and meaningful, yet difficult to understand its true meaning. This is because we can not know how good or bad we are; how beautiful or ugly we are, if we do not know how to truly know ourselves. Some of us may have some kind emotion that others find too overbearing. And these people will find it difficult to change their ways --they are already too rooted in their ways to want to change for the better.
But they will always change in some way later, though. But it may be years later. Then, maybe they can rediscover the person they used to be. So, our yesterdays make what we are today.

When you are talking about a generalised topic, it is better to use "we" than "you" -- its inclusive, meaning including you . Your "you" points directly at me .> When we go to a party, we always bring gifts.
