Personally, I'm interested in different writing styles, and I hope you don't mind. I study Japanese, and I always thought it interesting that in Colombo, Detective Colombo uses ”家の神様”（or うちの神さん? I have every early season DVD in Japanese, so I should know this!）to describe his wife, and that staff in the service industry use 客は神様, which translates to "The customer is king/queen" or "The customer is always right"

The other day, I had to take the highway bus from a train station, but I had no idea where the bus stop was. I asked a station attendant for directions, and he gave me a map and very detailed step-by-step instructions. He used phrases like "Go up the STAIRS" and "Turn left and then go up a SLOPE." He went into meticulous detail at any point where someone might conceivably lose their way.His detailed explanations were vital! If I have to make several turns, I often get lost because I don't really have a good sense of direction. In addition, there wasn't much time until the bus arrived, so he was a real lifesaver! In these kinds of situations (where you are saved by someone especially helpful), younger Japanese speakers often use the word 神(Kami).
あの駅員さんの説明は神だった！(The station attendant's explanation was excellent!)
神 translates to 'God' in English. Other examples using the word 神 include:

*I heard that in the USA, kids are not supposed to use words like "God" or "Christ" in casual conversation because it's bad manners/because it's kind of taboo. That's one of the reasons why people use "Oh my gosh" instead of "Oh my God." Maybe it sounds odd for you to hear Japanese people using the word "God" so casually.
Hi Nami-san, this is the first of two corrections for this entry! This is a more basic style of correction, just correcting small grammar or word choice errors. Two things:
1) * "A little bit young people's word though" ---> I guess this means either "It's often used by younger people" OR possibly "It's a bit of a childish expression"
2) **"Religious curse words" Basically, words connected to the Christian religion, such as "God", "Damn", "Hell", and (my personal favorite) "Jesus H Christ" are considered holy by some people. In the USA, some people think it's taboo to use these types of words in an informal or disrespectful context. They can be used in church or when praying, of course!
