what is the difference if I ask 你的电话号码是什么？ compared with 你的电话号码是多少？

both 你的电话号码是什么？ and 你的电话号码是多少？ is correct in grama.
but if you wanna get a newfriend's telephone number. you're gonna wanna make it politely, for example by "你可以告诉我你的电话号码吗? or 我可以留一下你的电话号码吗? that sounds more polite.
howerer , if you guys are familiar or friends, just say: 你的电话号码是什么？ or 你的电话号码是多少?

They mean exactly the same. I really wouldn't worry too much about the difference.

Normally, we use ＂多少＂ to ask about the numbers, for instance,"多少钱＂（How much）"多少学生"（Howmanystudents）.
so "你的电话号码是多少＂sounds more natural here.

There's no difference. But 你的电话号码是什么 sounds strange. 你的电话号码是多少 is more natural.
