プロの講師Skateboarding in the Olympics
Skateboarding is back! This year at the Paris Olympics, it has been quite an explosive competition so far. As someone who’s been skating for over 15 years I have really been enjoying it. To be honest back when I was 15 years old, I never thought or even imagined that skateboarding would make it to the Olympics. Street skating, which has been getting more popular by the year, was once only a small part of the skateboarding community. This is not the case today, street skating is now making global headlines.
One standout moment was when the skate team’s bus broke down. Instead of getting worked up, the skaters just skated their way to the competition venue. As skaters, we are very used to overcoming problems, and this attitude definitely captures the spirit of skateboarding.
Something else that caught my eye was the rain and the problems it causes for skateboarders. As a result the men's street competition event had to be postponed for a number of days due to the rain. Now skateboarders worldwide will know the pain of having to deal with rain, and how infuriating it is. But like I said, we are used to this so we adapt and overcome these setbacks with great experience
Skating the streets of London for nearly 2 decades, mainly during an era when skateboarders were seen as misfits and a general nuisance to the public, there were limited skateboarding competitions especially international ones. Now skateboarding is being recognised and respected for being the powerhouse of a sport it deserves to be. The Olympics are truly a fitting place for this extreme sport, as skateboarding is a spectator's sport and with the level of competition this year it could be the most fierce and competitive one yet. As a skateboarder, seeing the progress and mainstream acceptance of the sport is great, and I believe events like these have had a huge impact on the skating community as a whole. In a very positive way!
