Dear Lemon, Listening is a skill that can be acquired. There is an excellent series which can help you develop better listening skills. The series is called 'Active Listening' and is published by Cambridge University Press. I briefly taught Saudi students using this series and found it - the series made listening much easier for the students. This is done by breaking down listening in to three distinct skills. They are (1) listening for gist (2) listening for detail (3) and inference (usually the hardest). They are explained fuller in the book.
