You have done something wrong. You are sorry for what you did. You wish you had not done something. Someone is upset with you because of what you said or did. You must apologize, and say you are sorry for what you did. You also can say "please forgive me, I'm very sorry. I did not mean to say that. I apologize" The other person will understand that you are apoligizing, and they will see you are really sorry for what you did. They will say, "I forgive you". "That's okay". "Don't worry about it". This is not a time to say "excuse me" but you say "forgive me". At the time you say something wrong, accidentally hurt someone, or do something wrong, at that moment you can say "Oh, excuse me! I didn't mean to say that or do that".

I don't often hear people say "I apologize" unless they've done something truly awful and feel bad about it. "I'm sorry" can be used this way, but "I'm sorry" is less formal and is frequently used for less serious offenses such as accidentally bumping into someone or not having any change to give to a homeless person. "Excuse me" can be used for less serious offenses or when you're trying to get someone's attention for the time or directions to a place: "Excuse me, do you know what time it is? Excuse me, can you tell me how to get to Disneyland from here?" Hey, Miguel, can you tell me what the equivalent expressions are in Spanish?

You use "excuse me" for letting people know you're about to do something, like passing closely to someone or before interrupting one's speech or work. You use "sorry" for apologizing. You say sorry when you want to show that you regret something you're done (apologize) or that you feel bad about a certain situation. Hope I've helped!

You can say: I apologize, I'm sorry, please forgive me [ not excuse me]

I've heard in a t.v show (Spartacus) that people say "Apologize" to other people. Why?.... just "apologize" not "I apologize"
