Complete: Joe wouldn't have crashed if ... a) he hadn't been driving so fast. b) he hadn't drove so fast. My textbook says the suitable form is letter a. Can't figure out why.Could anybody tell me if they mean the same? =)NOTE: Consider "hadn't driven" not "hadn't drove". My mistake.

As Mikey says, b) is incorrect anyway because the past participle of 'drive' is 'driven', not 'drove'. a) is correct because the continuous form is needed. The action 'crashed' interrupts the continuous action that was in progress at the time 'driving'.

A, b is completely wrong, you dont say hadnt drove, you say hadnt driven
