It wasn't long ago that you could not even transfer them! ;) I'm not sure if this was done to ensure a cashflow to and from the site, but if you think a "credit pool" may be better than two sets of credits, that may be worth suggesting to the admin (the Contact Us link below).

It is a good question, the reason for it is account purposes, teachers need an account that they are able to withdraw from, if the accounts were uniform anyone could purchase and then withdraw the same credits back into cash. That is not how our site works. I understand your confusion and I hope this helps to clear things up.
