Is the last name "Matsumoto" refers to a famous noble Japanese family in the past? I think I've heard that somewhere, but I'm not sure... Thanks.

Matsumoto is a common family name (as well as a place name). While there might have been any number of locally notable families that everybody in that particular village or town knew about, there is or was no matsumoto family of that nature that is recognized widely in Japan. At least not that I know of. Maybe you mean Kenjiro Matsumoto?

If I can say in Japanese one of sub-branch of Seiwa Genji (One of the son of empire Seiwa ) and also in name sub-branch of Hata-shi (Relation with Chinese Empire) Now most clear in history one of the son of Ogasawara-shi (One of load family in present matsumoto city)use name Matsumoto not clear realation in Japanese noble family.
