What's the difference among "babysitter", "childminder" and "au pair"?
I recently find the word "childminer" in a British text. I know, in some extent, the meaning of "au pair" but I don't know exactly the meaning the difference among the three words.

A babysitter is someone hired for an evening while the parents go out on a date. A babysitter is short term.
A childminder is more of a daytime thing. They are a pre-school and young child educator or daycare provider. This is also short term
An au pair is a live in nanny who takes care of the kids. This person is there for a long while.

The concept of "au pair" is that they are part of the family. They live there for a time. Most au pairs are involved with childcare, usually with some child care training, but not all.
