从东京来的飞机到了吗?/从东京的飞机到了吗?
I had a question from my student when I was teaching "从", and here comes a sentence:
从东京来的飞机到了吗?(Has the plane from Tokyo arrived?) In this sentence, 从 is used as "from". He then asked me can we ask the question this way:
从东京的飞机到了吗? I know this one is wrong, but I can not explain it.
Does anyone know how to explain it? Thanks a lot.

there isn't the “来”,in the second setence,in chinese, you can regard“从....来”as a stereotyped expression,that tell you where it come from.

来到 is a Chinese motion structure
so
来 is needed to show the direction

I thought that this is a shortened form of the 是。 。 。的 pattern. I was told that you can leave off the 是 but not the 的。 Because the sentence is emphasizing where the plane is coming from (是从东京来的 )using the pattern is the most natural way to say it.
