Korean dialects
Are there a lot in Korea? How can I tell if it's a dialect and not something that everyone does?
It's confusing for me, sometimes I hear 나두 when they're saying 나도. Some people say 아이구 instead of 아이고. It sounds weird when I hear a stressed 괜차나 instead of quicker 겐차나. Also, 의 is said like 이 or 에/예. There's more but I can't remember at the moment.
I know there is at least a country dialect and a "normal" dialect. Can someone elaborate?
There's also Jeju dialect... which we'll save for another question...

Hi Wes,
나두 = 나도
아이구 = 아이고
괜차나(겐차나) = 괜찮아
When you text to somebody you are close to or just a friend, it is okay to use the words listed in the left side, 나두, 아이구 괜차나... They are usually used in the text messaging or internet chat by young teenagers. However, they should NOT be used in the written Korean when you write an essay or something.
의 is often pronounced "에" in verbal. For example, you write "나의 친구" (My friend), but you can say "나에 친구 or 나의 친구"
I have a friend from Jeju. When he talked with his mother on the phone, I didn't understand anything.....lol.
Let me know if you have any questions.
bye for now.

They are not dialect. They are just wrong words just more conversational. it's just spelling as it sounds. so they're not correct in writing. it's something like this ; give me = gimme, and you asked about 의 is said like 이 or 에/예.-basically when 의 means 'of-possessive case', it sounds 에. for example 나의 친구 in writing = [나에 친구] in sound., 너의 비밀 in writing=[너에 비밀]in sound. hope this helps u.
