different kanji, same pronunciation and meaning: 治 vs 直
Studying kanji sometimes I have found some kanji with same meaning and pronunciation.
For example I have found: 取る and 撮る but I was told to use the second just when it's about photos and so on, i.e. 「写真を撮る」
In this case it's easy, same pronunciation but different meaning and use.
But with 治す and 直す how can I guess which one I have to use?

治す・・・to heal, to cure
直す・・・to fix, to repair, to correct
風邪（かぜ）を治す
to get rid of a cold
車（くるま）を直す
to fix a car
