발음 질문: "꽃잎"
Please understand that I am somewhat hearing impaired and have to wear hearing devices. I have trouble hearing ladies' voices correctly (as much as I LOVE ladies voices). It's possible I am not hearing this right, so:
1. Please tell me if I am hearing this right. If not, please help me understand what I SHOULD be hearing.
2. If I am hearing this right, please explain the rule so I can use it again.
In this lovely old song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGAPk8ZvGUw
The second line of the refrain is:
꽃잎에 새겨진 사라의 이야기들
The first two syllables sound like 꼿닢 to me. When I try to sing with it, I definitely hear the ㄴ sound in their pronunciation, and it wasn't in mine.
Do I hear it right? and can you explain the rule to me, please?
Thank you.

스티브님, 귀가 빨라요!! ^^
꽃잎 (petal), 나뭇잎 (leaf), 깻잎(sesame leaves)
여러분, 음성으로 가르쳐 주시죠. 아름다운 한국인의 목시리 들을 수 있으면 큰 도움이 될텐데...
제가 한번 해 볼까요? ㅎㅎ

덕분에 좋은 노래 듣고 갑니다.
(Steve, don't copy my pronunciation. I am just trying to encourage others to help us this way!)

The pronunciation of 꽃잎 is [꼰닙].
The pronunciation of 꽃잎에 is [꼰니페].
*The 29th rule of Standard pronunciation
합성어 및 파생어에서, 앞 단어나 접두사의 끝이 자음이고 뒤 단어나 접미사의 첫 음절이 '이, 야, 여, 요, 유'인 경우에는, 'ㄴ'소리를 첨가하여 [니, 냐, 녀, 뇨, 뉴]로 발음한다.
In the compound words and derivative words, when the first word or prefix ends with consonant and the second word or suffix starts with the vowel '이, 야, 여, 요, 유', pronounce with adding 'ㄴ' sound like [니, 냐, 녀, 뇨, 뉴].
ex) 솜-이불[솜:니불] 홑-이불[혼니불] 막-일[망닐]
*The 18th rule of Standard pronunciation
받침 'ㄱ(ㄲ, ㅋ, ㄳ, ㄺ), ㄷ(ㅅ, ㅆ, ㅈ, ㅊ, ㅌ, ㅎ), ㅂ(ㅍ, ㄼ, ㄿ, ㅄ)'은 'ㄴ, ㅁ' 앞에서 [ㅇ, ㄴ, ㅁ]으로 발음한다.
The final consonant 'ㄱ(ㄲ, ㅋ, ㄳ, ㄺ), ㄷ(ㅅ, ㅆ, ㅈ, ㅊ, ㅌ, ㅎ), ㅂ(ㅍ, ㄼ, ㄿ, ㅄ)' is pronounced as [ㅇ, ㄴ, ㅁ] in front of 'ㄴ, ㅁ'.
ex) 먹는[멍는] 국물[궁물] 짓는[진:는] 옷맵시[온맵시] 있는[인는] 맞는[만는]
꽃-잎 => 꼳-입 => 꼳닙 => 꼰닙

You are right, you did hear the ㄴ.
Words that come before the word 잎 can sometimes act a little bit different than you would expect.
In these cases, the final ㅊ/ㅅ morphs to an ㄴ sound and not what you were expecting.
The words 꽃잎 (petal), 나뭇잎 (leaf) and 깻잎 (sesame leaf) are all pronounced as 꼰잎, 나문잎 and 깬잎 respectively.
I can't think offhand of any other words that do this except for the ones involving 잎, but I will sleep on it and try and figure out what the rule is.
