The present progressive tense is used for an on-going action in the present. An example would be " Amy is *looking for* her bag" or " Jack and Amy *are fishing*". It can also be used negatively by just adding "not" in front of it. E.g "Amy *is not* going out anymore". ^.^

There are many uses to describe different situations, e.g.
Something you are doing right now.
Something you started doing but haven't finished.
Something you will do soon.
Something you do often that can be annoying.
