What is the difference between topic and thesis? Please help me

Topic- what you are generally talking about
Thesis- First sentence that revolves around the general topic.
example:
topic: color red
thesis: The color red symbolizes this, this, and that.

Thesis has a broader meaning. It can mean an idea, argument, proposition etc.
So the thesis of your paper is the argument or proposition you are advancing in it. My thesis is that all men are created equal or my thesis is that climate change will be the most important political issue in the 21st century.

Yah, I used dictionary,
My dictionary show thesis mean :" a long essay or dissertation involving personal research, written by a candidate for a college degree". However my teacher ask me some questions such as: "State the thesis of this paper. Where does the thesis appear in the essay?". This is why I don't understand
