what is the difference between “four other balls” and “ the other four balls” ? In a grammar book I read it says that cardinal numeral should be in front of "other" such as three other days ,some other reference books , and should be put behind "another" like another three days. But in the sentence below I found that "the other four balls" Imagine life as a game in which you are juggling some five balls in the air. You name them work, family, health, friends and spirit and you’re keeping all of these in the air. You will soon understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. But the other four balls family, health, friends and spirit are made of glass. If you drop one of these, they will be irrevocably scuffed, marked, nicked, damaged or even shattered. What is the difference between "four other balls" and "the other four balls" ?

"Four other balls" would mean four balls taken from an alternative set of at least that many, and likely many more. "The other four balls" would mean four balls from an alternative set that comprised only those four balls.

Nothing, as long as "the" is there "Other four balls" would sound incorrect "The other four balls" sounds correct to me "Four other balls" sounds correct to me Stick with always putting the number before "other" with yourself. But if you see or hear it the opposite way, the meaning is no different. This is a least true where I live. Native English speaker in the USA
