Do you think watching cartoons is a good way to improve oral comprehension ? Hello I'm trying to learn english and it's very difficult for me to understand english spoken. So I try to watch movies and also to listen radio news but it's discouraging because I understand barely anything ! I wonder if cartoons could help me to improve my comprehension. My idea is that vocabulary is simple. If you think it could be a good idea, do you know which cartoon I can watch to really learn something ? If you have others ideas for me to understand english spoken it will be great ! Thank you for helping me Yannick PS : If you can correct this message it will also help me !

I think cartoons are a wonderful way to improve your listening comprehension. I'm a Spanish learner and cartoons are my favourite method of practicing. You could start watching Dora the Explorer or Peppa Pig. They speak relatively slowly and it can be entertaining. Also, I would like to make a few corrections in your text. Hello I'm trying to learn **English** (capitalise "English") and it's very difficult for me to understand **spoken English** (In English, the adjective comes before a noun). So I try to watch movies and also to listen **to** radio news but it's discouraging because I **barely understand** (this construction is just more natural) anything ! I wonder if cartoons could help me to improve my comprehension. My idea is that vocabulary is simple. If you think it could be a good idea, do you know which cartoon I can watch to really learn something ? If you have others ideas for me to understand **spoken English**, **that** will be great ! Thank you for helping me

I think that's a great idea! Some things I can recommend, given what your question leads me to believe your language is would be Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, Rick and Morty (If you're ok with learning pretty much every curse English has to offer) or just going on youtube and finding something you enjoy on there.

Cartoons are very helpful in learning. They are full of easy and short phrases , which we can use in different situations. I and my children adore Peppa Pig. When my son was 2,5 he repeated even long words from this cartoon such as DINOSAUR. You understand everything while watching, the language is very easy to understand. Peppa consists of short series. Each one is a little adventure. Your dictionary is not only enriched with new expressions, but you get a lot of positive energy while whatching. Another very useful cartoon especially for beginners is Muzzy. It consist of 2 parts. the first part is devoted to simple words and can be helpful to those, who know nothing in English) The second one is mainly grammar. Pocoyo is very interesting cartoon. A lot of cartoons you can find on disney junior channel, such as HANDY MAN, TASTY TIME, BEES, JAKE AND PIRATES. The best cartoon is Berenstain Bears. This cartoon shows upbrinning moments and it may be useful for parents, who teach their kids English.

For me, understanding orally comes down to vocabulary. You may not have enough vocabulary to understand everything being said. Or, you have the vocabulary but you aren't used to hearing it spoken, in which case I highly recommend watching movies and tv shows with English subtitles turned on. Phonology could also play a part. It was extremely difficult for me to understand what French people were saying before I had someone explain the phonology to me and improve my own accent.
