About intonation and stress-timed languages Does anyone know what the Dutch, Swedish or Norwegian intonation is like? I mean the word stress, the words that are stressed and unstressed in a sentence . And how different and regular is it compared to English intonation? If you speak any other stress-timed language your opinion is welcome too, please!!

Hi, On the blog Dutch Idiom you can listen to some short Dutch spoken texts. Listen and decide for yourself :) http://www.dutchidiom.com

There are no rules about, or patterns of, stress in Dutch. You have to learn the stress patterns for each word, but that comes naturally after a while. Note that much intonation, for example, rising cadence at the end of a sentence to indicate a question, is similar to English.
