what is the synonym for rubbish used nowadays?
I occasionally encounter the word "rubbish" when reading and I don't reckon I've ever heard it when watching movies or listening to some native people talk. Could you suggest a synonym that is used for describing the feeling of disbelieving someone (The one I can get away using in the US)?
Ex: I bumped into Adriano Chilintano yesterday at the party!
Answer: Rubbish!
What are the other ways of expressing the same meaning? (I can think of "Bullshit", "Nonsense", "Are you kidding me", "No way").

Or use the literal synonym - the word that Americans used for household refuse disposal - "That's garbage."

Not strange at all. Jerry's given you the US perspective on this - for speakers of American English, it sounds like something that an ill-educated country hick from the southern States might say. That's not the case in British English. Outside the USA, 'reckon' is informal, but it's commonly used and it has no class connotation for us. If it's good enough for the well-educated young wizards of Hogwarts, it's good enough for me.
