Can you guys help me please?
I'm really confused by the meaning of "버리다 (beo-ri-da)" in the TOPIK Guide, it's written that the meaning is "(following a verb) the", when i googled the meaning of "버리다 (beo-ri-da)", the result that popped up was "버리다 (beo-ri-da)" means to lose something or to throw away. Which one of them is right? Thank you so much!

버리다 has two usages
As a main verb, it means "to throw away, abandon, ruin"
e.g.
나는 낡은 부츠를 버렸다
I threw out my old boots.
희망을 버리지 마라
Don't give up hope.
그는 술 때문에 몸을 버렸다
He destroyed his health by drinking.
As an auxiliary verb, it denotes that some actin was completed with the feeling of relief or regret.

Both are right. When used alone it does mean "abandon" but it has special usage to decorate a verb and in that case it has an adverbial quality of performing the said action thoroughly and completely

'버리다' means 'to throw away'.
'to lose something' is '잃어버리다'
'to forget something' is '잊어버리다'
