[Turkish to English Translation] Am I translating this correctly?

Am I translating this Turkish sentence correctly?
- Vatan, bağrına bastığın evlatların gibi üstüne titrediğin.
I believe it translates to:
-- Nation, you were trembling like stressed children.

It is from a poem I believe and not really easy to translate. I wish to see the correct translation too.
"bağrına bastığın" this is more like cuddle
"üstüne titrediğin" might be translated as coddle. Trembling doesn't look right here.
text means something like this: It is the nation that you coddle as you cuddle your own children
Not very helpful but wanted to answer :-)
