Need some help translating a phrase from a Japanese movie?
So I watched a short Japanese movie called Seventh Code with the subtitles turned off to practice my Japanese listening today. I was able to understand almost all the Japanese spoken, but there was one part of the movie where a Japanese man takes a gun out of his desk and says: まあ、どのみちのるかするかだ?
At first, I thought he was saying something like "Oh dear, everywhere" or "which street" since 道 can mean that.
After translating it online I got this: Well, why do you have it?
So I want to verify if in this scene he was asking himself why he has a gun yes?

Hi Jokerswild. I'm not quite sure of the context, but he seems to make a really important decision, because this line, のるかそるか,is usually used in the similar situation. He has to do something serious, but he doesn't know whether it's going to be successful or not.
And どのみち means, no matter what I do this or that.
Is it the answer of your question?
