Difference of understand and understood I have a question when learning English with my friends. When talking with someone, he/she tells us a thing, we understand, then which one is correct (or which one is more appropriate): 1. I understood. 2. I understand. Thanks for your help.

understood is the past tense of understand so you would say "I understand".
