Pour dire  "the one in the middle", on dit "celle du milieu" (celle => féminin car chaise est féminin)

Je pense qu'on peut traduire "facing down" par "face contre terre" et "this object is facing up" par "cet objet est face vers le haut"

- côté dessus // coté dessous (= the top side/ the bottom side)
