I found "brook" that meas "a small steam" in cambridge dictionary , why it use "steam" steam means "the hot gas that is produced when water boils " in the same dictionary I think "a small river" is better than " a small steam" If I am right ? or wrong ?

You are correct. This was likely a typographical error. The word should be "stReam." They left out the R. A stream is a small brook. A river flows bigger and stronger than a stream, which might just be a stream that is only seen when it is raining (it dries up when not raining). stream<brook<creak<river and usually a river flows into an ocean or other large body of water. However, a stream may be created from rains in a ditch or trench behind your house.
