Can anyone tell me what this means . "stoic culture frowned on self-expression"

When you're stoic, you don't like showing what you're feeling ("frown on self-expression") and you also accept whatever is happening.

"frown on" = "disapprove of". The other words have their literal meaning. I presume you know about the Stoics and what "self-expression" means.
