Interrogative pronoun: what are you doing? O que você está fazendo?  Indirect questions: I don't understand what you're saying. Não compreendo o que você diz.  Interrogative adjective: what is your favourite color? qual é a tua cor preferida/a cor preferida de você? ou qual cor você prefere?

In a short but clear way: "O que" means "the one/that (one)/this (one) which/who/that (what/who/he who)" in affirmative sentence and "what" in questions. "O que" cannot be followed by a noun: for that, you must use only "que". In interrogative questions, you can replace "o que" by "que" only. "Qual" (without "o" before) is used only in questions and indirect questions (and related) and means "which" (one among a group). "Qual" may be alone or folowed by a noun. The group out of which you have to do your choice is not so restrict as in English and sometimes you have to translate "Qual" by "What". 1) O que queres que te dê? O "que" é um pronome indefinido sinônimo de qual coisa. Sendo usado em interrogações diretas e indiretas, é também chamado de pronome interrogativo. Exemplo: O que você gosta de assistir? "Qual" é um pronome relativo, vem sempre acompanhado de um artigo definido. É utilizado depois de preposições e de locuções prepositivas. É preferencialmente utilizado depois de preposições com mais de três letras. Exemplo: Qual é o seu seriado preferido?
