what's the difference between "distinguish" and "recognize"?

Distinguish means to be able to figure out differences. Eg you can distinguish original branded shirt from first quality fake branded shirts.
However, recognize means to accept or to give your acceptance. Eg your boss can recognize your hard work means he appreciates or accepts or confirms that you are doing hard work. Its like giving credit for.
