Meaning of folks in this sentence
Hello! Can you help me understand the meaning of "folks" in this sentence?
"It's not enough just to be a good person. Even if you personally have "never" actively engaged in a racist act, you, me, we have benefitted from a system built for us, and against black, brown, poc, folks."
My friend is translating it to Portuguese and we had some trouble because of the Portuguese word "povo", which is usully translated as "people", but depending on the context it can have kind of a cultural sense or refer to poor people in general.
Is that what "folks" mean in this sentence? Or does it have a racial specific meaning?
