They are almost the same meaning. わかる has the nuance of 'understand deeply'. We use 知ります when we know something as knowledge. We use 'わかります' when I understand something with experience.

知る:know of, to have simple information, e.g, it exists or not. わかる: know, understand. 「知らない人」- a stranger, a person you don't know of. 「よく分からないひと」 - a strange person, a person you cannot understand well. My father didn't know of Oman. (He didn't even know that the country named Oman exists) 「彼はオマーンのことを、わかっていない」 He doesn't understand Oman. / He doesn't know Oman well. (He knows of the very existence of a country named Oman but he still doesn't understand well people, culture and other contents about Oman). I heard that he is a famous person. (You cannot tell your reasons because it is only that you heard it). I found that he is a famous person. Considering lots of information, you concluded that he was a famous person. (You can tell your reasons why)

知る https://jisho.org/search/%E7%9F%A5%E3%82%8B わかる https://jisho.org/search/%E3%82%8F%E3%81%8B%E3%82%8B Even for natives, it is difficult to explain the difference. Sorry I've come back and I was busy with answering on Notebook. Customary usages/patterns just can suggest us which to use. Furthermore, the forms also matter. OK On one hand, unusual/awkward or doesn't mean as the above one OK They mean roughly the same thing but the second one is popularly used. Remember they are very complicated and variously differ.
