Hello Kamal, It could also mean beside the above mentioned by fdmaxey: - of greater importance or priority. "The major part of ..." - being of full legal age. - In Britain it means the elder and is used after a schoolboy's surname if he has one or more younger brothers in the same school: Kamal major Not that you are necessarily the major , it is just an example ;)

The opposite of "major" is "minor" "Major" is also a rank in the military, above a captain and below a colonel. "Major" also refers to the main area of study in college. My major was mathematics.
