Hello Monica,
You better start by taking some initial German course to get introduced to the basics: pronunciation, basic grammar and simple phrases.
Then you can start searching the net for sites such as the one suggested by Otto and others such as:
* german.about.com/library/anfang/blanfang01.ht
* www.babelnation.com/german//courses/index.htm
* www.europa-pages.com/lessons/german.html
* www.alphasoft.cc/store/learn-german.htm
Viel Glück beim Lernen :)

Hello Monica,
are you learning German already? If yes, additional material is very helpful, but to suggest sth. please let me know your level.
Some links maybe:
http://www.slowgerman.com/
http://www.dw-world.de/dw/0,,9572,00.html
http://www.goethe.de/lrn/prj/rod/enindex.htm
Have fun and let us know how you get on.
Regards,
Otto

Here are the steps I use when learning a language:
1. Get some easy books in that language.
2. Start reading the books.
3. Make flash cards out of the words I don't know. Look up the word meaning in an online dictionary (http://ichi2.net/anki/ is a good flash card program, and for German, I use the online dictionary http://dict.cc)
4. Read books some more to reinforce the words I just learned, and learn more words.
