プロの講師Have you ever had a hard time understanding Congiuntivo?
Imagine the congiuntivo as a gateway to a parallel universe. In this universe, actions and situations unfold differently. This mood isn't about stating facts; it's about exploring possibilities, expressing doubts, wishes, or hypothetical scenarios.
So, when you use the congiuntivo, think of it as painting a picture of what could be, rather than what is. It's a beautiful aspect of Italian that allows you to express nuances and explore the depth of your thoughts and feelings.
For instance, in the congiuntivo presente, we might say, "Spero che tu sia felice" (I hope that you are happy). Here, we're not stating a fact but expressing a hope, a desire for happiness in our parallel universe.
Moving to the congiuntivo imperfetto, consider the sentence, "Vorrei che tu fossi qui" (I wish you were here). This conveys a wish about a situation that's not aligned with our current reality, inviting us to imagine a different scenario where this wish comes true.
Understanding the congiuntivo is like being a storyteller, crafting narratives that extend beyond the bounds of our immediate world.

Awesome explanation that also makes sense in French!
It is definitely not a statement but a desire and If one desires something it means they don't have it.
Your example " Spero che tu sia felice " is very relevant. The person has this hope but nothing guarantees that the other one is indeed happy hence the doubt.
Looking forward to more posts!
