Use of समझना and समझ आना Hello! I am still a little confused on a very basic phrase in Hindi. If I say to someone, "I understand." Do I say: "मैं समझती हूं." or "मैं समझ आया." or "मैं समझी" ? Or does it matter? Thank you in advance for your help.

Improving listening skills (Hindi) Hello! I find that my biggest challenge these days is that when I speak to natives in Hindi or when I listen to Hindi audio I still barely catch and understand most of what I hear. I catch about every 2nd or 3rd word but by the time I figure out the meaning is in my head, they're on to the next sentence! It's a little better in conversations because I am engaged in the topic. I've done active listening exercises, but that hasn't seemed to work for me. Does anyone have any advice for improving listening and comprehension skills?

How to Form Short Term Language Goals Hello, I have read that for successful language learning one must develop many small language goals that can be met in a certain amount of time. List of words with difficult Hindi sounds. Hello, I am trying to work on my pronunciation and would like to compile a list of words for each of the sounds I am having trouble with so that I can practice. Trying something new I'm beginning to see a few of the barriers that I need to overcome in the process of learning Hindi. 1. When I speak I try to use words that I haven't learned yet, and then I get stuck. Using new words isn't a bad thing but I should probably prepare more ahead of time so that it doesn't mess me up mid sentence. 2. I become so wrapped up in speaking grammatically correct that I get stuck/forget easy words/ get nervous and then have to keep repeating myself. So my solution is to start writing a Hindi journal about what I do doing the week, so that I have something prepared that I can discuss during my classes. Even if my grammar isn't correct, I can get help from the teacher on subjects that I encounter in my life and I won't get stuck trying to come up with topics for discussion. I'll also get more talking time, which is what I need.

Long Time Bahut sa samay se chala gaya. Mein apne path mei vyast hoon aur mein kam kar rahi hoon. Meri Hindi thori behtar hai lekin mein bahut si chizen janti nahim hain. Mein abhi adhik bolti hoon lekin mein abhi bhi dhimi hoon. Kuch pal, mein shabd janti hoon, lekin yah khoyaa hai. Kisi din, koi galtiyan nahim hogi. I'm happy that I'm getting more time to speak, although I feel very inadequate when I do. I"m lucky that those I have been skyping with are incredibly patient and give me as much time as I need to think. Still, I feel like my progress could be better. That's probably the perfectionism talking though =) Back to work!
