I am a very disciplined person who makes sure that her students are the same way too. I usually send out materials prior to the lessons such as articles, and videos, and then during the lessons, we discuss whatever homework was assigned. When the students make a mistake, I tend to point it out in the chat. I believe the best way to learn is by trying and making an effort and if we do mistakes, that is fine too. We all learn from mistakes. As a teacher, I am very patient and I believe that when it comes to teaching is a trait that we should have especially when teaching a language to someone.

I try to be as flexible as possible and adapt to my students' needs. I really believe that motivation is key to learning a language (or anything at all probably). That is why I try to focus on what really interests my students and 'build' on that, whatever it may be – a topic, an objective in the language, a desire to visit a place. That way learning will not feel as something one 'has to' do with all its difficulties but as something one can hopefully enjoy while in the process, while learning things that are relevant to them. So yes, as a joke I that I believe that as in any kind of relationship listening to others and asking them what they wish for is a very good skill in teaching too!

In generale, sono una persona molto precisa e mi impegno molto in ciò che faccio, insegnamento compreso. Mi piace scegliere accuratamente i materiali di studio: la mia priorità è rendere la lezione interessante, ricca, ma anche piacevole, in modo da rendere l'apprendimento il più appassionante possibile. L'atmosfera con me è distesa, informale, ma concentrata e precisa; sono molto paziente, quindi non ti preoccupare se farai qualche errore: solo gli errori ci permettono di migliorare!

Mi chiamo Simonetta e vivo in Italia. Da sempre mi affascina tutto ciò che ha a che fare con le lingue straniere. Parlo tedesco, inglese e spagnolo ad un buon livello; ma c'è sempre un modo per capirsi! La vita di ogni giorno è un ottimo spunto per agganciarsi ad altri argomenti e discutere diversi temi. Credo che destreggiarsi nella conversazione sia lo scopo di quasi tutti quelli che desiderano imparare una lingua straniera. Posso proporre esercizi di grammatica, vocabolario o comprensione. Quello che secondo me è più importante, però, è la comprensione della lingua orale. Per questo cerco di dare più importanza alla conversazione, soprattutto se riguarda eventi quotidiani. Poiché ritengo che la lettura sia un buon metodo per migliorare la pronuncia, posso ascoltare volentieri chi desideri leggere.

Sono molto precisa, attenta e disponibile. Mi piace creare una certa sintonia con lo studente in modo da capire le sue esigenze e rendere le lezioni più piacevoli. Non credo ci sia un metodo valido per tutti ma piuttosto che la lezione cambi a seconda dei bisogni di ogni studente. Anche io sto studiando e ho studiato una lingua straniera quindi posso capire perfettamente le difficoltà che si possono incontrare nel percorso.

Regarding my experience, I have taught my native language to both teens and adults. My Bachelor’s Degree is in Languages and Literatures (English and Russian), and my Master’s Degree is in Modern Philology. Last year, I also obtained CEDIL certification, which certifies my competence in teaching Italian as a foreign language or second language. I have studied languages since I was 13 years old, and now that I live in Australia, I use them daily at work and outside work to interact with locals and friends. I always loved studying languages, but I hated how language class made me feel: anxious, insecure, and afraid of being judged by teachers and classmates. In addition to these odd feelings, it seemed to me that, despite all the efforts, I never really improved in the learning process. But all these experiences made me understand how a student should feel in class: confident, relaxed, understood, listened to, and supported. You will find all of this in our lesson (+ with tons of laughter). In our classes, there will be no space for judgment: learning a language is hard, and the only way to truly master it is by making mistakes! Mistakes are an essential part of learning. My goal is to help you feel confident speaking with native speakers, fulfilling your needs, and building connections.

Teaching is one of my true lifelong passions. After graduating with honors in English and Spanish Language and Literature at the University of Bologna and receiving a CELTA pass A, I have taught for fifteen years to all levels and age groups. I have experienced the public and private school systems in Italy and Mexico, where I taught both language and literature. I am an enthusiastic person and as a teacher I would describe myself as competent, energetic and fun (at least so they say!). I am also very patient and I try to find the right approach for every student, so they can make the most of our classes and feel satisfied with their progress.
