Are there any deliberate practices one can follow to become more attuned to the rhyming elements—such as slant rhymes—in Emily Dickinson's poetry? I'd also love to hear your thoughts on her use of the concept of circumference. Thanks. Girl, still, they shot me up in prose, as when a little girl, they put me in the closet because they liked me still. Girl and still, they are half rhymes. That's also known as a slant rhyme. Now, if you've even slightly touched upon a few of Emily Dickinson's most popular or most famous poems, that word, slant, is going to start sticking out to you. Tell all the truth, but tell it slant. We're going to get into that. She loves this idea of slant. She loves this idea of circumference, and she's utilizing linguistic metaphors in order to convey this idea of slanting.
