“—下” is used after a verb to indicate a short action, similar to the reduplicative form of a verb.
The object of the verb can be omitted. 
For example:
wǒ kàn yí xià shū 。 
我看一下书。Let me read the book.

nǐ xiū xi yí xià bɑ 。 
你休息一下吧。You can take a break.

nǐ wèn yí xià lǎo shī 。 
你问一下老师。You ask the teacher.

wǒ tīnɡ yí xià zhè shǒu ɡē 。 
我听一下这首歌。Let me listen to this song.

Partindo para Piracicaba, pintou prateleiras para poder progredir. Posteriormente, partiu para Pirapora. Pernoitando, prosseguiu para Paranavaí, pois pretendia praticar pinturas para pessoas pobres. Porém, pouco praticou, porque Padre Paulo pediu para pintar panelas, porém posteriormente pintou pratos para poder pagar promessas. Pálido, porém perseverante, preferiu partir para Portugal para pedir permissão para papai para permanecer praticando pinturas, preferindo, portanto, Paris. Partindo para Paris, passou pelos Pirineus, pois pretendia pintá-los. Pareciam plácidos, porém, pesarosos, percebeu penhascos pedregosos, preferindo pintá-los parcialmente, pois perigosas pedras pareciam precipitar-se principalmente pelo Pico, porque pastores passavam pelas picadas para pedirem pousada, provocando provavelmente pequenas perfurações, pois, pelo passo percorriam, permanentemente, possantes potrancas. Pisando Paris, pediu permissão para pintar palácios pomposos, procurando pontos pitorescos, pois, para pintar pobreza, precisaria percorrer pontos perigosos, pestilentos, perniciosos, preferindo Pedro Paulo precaver-se. Profundas privações passou Pedro Paulo. Pensava poder progredir pintando, porém, pretas previsões passavam pelo pensamento, provocando profundos pesares, principalmente por pretender partir prontamente para Portugal. Povo previdente! Pensava Pedro Paulo… Preciso partir para Portugal porque pedem para prestigiar patrícios, pintando principais portos portugueses. Passando pela principal praça parisiense, partindo para Portugal, pediu para pintar pequenos pássaros pretos. Pintou, prostrou perante políticos, populares, pobres, pedintes. Paris! Paris! Proferiu Pedro Paulo. -Parto, porém penso pintá-la permanentemente, pois pretendo progredir *não coube todo o texto, caso queria integrar, me mande uma mensagem que lhe passo!

In this episode we are going to learn 【Transportation 】in Chinese.

As a beginner, there're some vocabularies that you didn't learn before, and native speaker's speed seems too fast to understand. But don't worry, let's do it step by step. 
1st time: listen and catch the words you know already, have a guess about the content.
2nd time: look at the text to check if you guessed it right. 
3rd time: listen one more time, repeat after it.
4th time: practice until you can speak as the normal speed without looking at the text.

中国的交通很方便。
zhōng guó de jiāo tōng hěn fāng biàn 。
The transportation in China is very convenient.
去上班可以坐地铁、坐公车、打车或者自己开车。
qù shàng bān kě yǐ zuò dì tiě 、 zuò gōng chē 、 dǎ chē huò zhě zì jǐ kāi chē 。
To get to work, you can take the subway, bus, taxi or drive yourself.
家离公司近的人可以走路去上班。
jiā lí gōng sī jìn de rén kě yǐ zǒu lù qù shàng bān 。
People who live close to the company can walk to work.
但是大城市人很多，堵车很厉害。
dàn shì dà chéng shì rén hěn duō ， dǔ chē hěn lì hài 。
But there are many people in big cities, and traffic jams are severe.
如果你赶时间，坐地铁最好。
rú guǒ nǐ gǎn shí jiān ， zuò dì tiě zuì hǎo 。
If you're in a hurry, it's best to take the subway.
因为地铁不会塞车，很准时。
yīn wèi dì tiě bú huì sāi chē ， hěn zhǔn shí 。
Because the subway does not have traffic jams, it is very punctual.
以前坐地铁用地铁卡，现在用手机就可以了。
yǐ qián zuò dì tiě yòng dì tiě kǎ ， xiàn zài yòng shǒu jī jiù kě yǐ le 。
Before we used subway card to take the subway, now using mobile phone is enough.
