It’s decided: decisive people no more accurate than self-doubters。

Research finds only difference between so-called action-oriented and state-oriented people is confidence

It’s a trait best seen in the eager pub quizzer – a tendency to leap to an answer without a shadow of a doubt.

Now researchers have suggested that while people who have little difficulty making decisions are more confident in their choices, they are no more accurate than those who feel more torn.

Writing in the journal Plos One, researchers revealed how they conducted experiments to explore potential differences between people who tend to be decisive, known as action-oriented people, and those who struggle to commit to a choice, known as state-oriented people.

“What we found is that confidence was the only thing that was different,” said Dr Wojciech Zajkowski, the first author of the research, who is now based at the Riken social decision science laboratory in Japan.

こんにちは！Atsushiです。

今回は、日本のカフェやレストランで聞く言葉について話します。
これは、先日レッスンをしていた時に出てきたトピックです。
おもしろいですし、とっさに聞くと困ると思うので、いくつか紹介しますね！


店内けっこう混み合ってるんですけど、大丈夫ですか？
こんな言葉を聞いたことがありますか？
意味は、店の席がほとんどあいていませんが、良いですか？
店内で飲みますか？食べますか？席はありますか？
というような意味ですね。

これは、たとえばカフェに行きます。
席がほとんどうまっています。
そんな時に、店員さんから聞かれると思います。

この時には、席はとったので大丈夫です。とか、
持ち帰りにします、とか
店員さんに言ってください。

僕は以前、コーヒーショップで20年働いていたので、このようなことをお客さんによく聞いていました。

満席に近いですが、お席取られていますか？とか、
席がほとんど埋まっていますので、先に席取ってくださいね、とか
今は席がいっぱいなので、持ち帰りでもよろしいでしょうか、などと
いうことが多かったです。

コーヒーショップは平日の朝や夜遅くは空いていますが、平日の昼から夕方、土日は1日中、席がいっぱい、満席なことが多いですね。

もし旅行で日本に来た時は、午前中にカフェに行く方がいいですよ！
席もあいているし、ゆっくりできます。
