Luna: Ó, méi guānxi méi guānxi… Nǐ shuō shénme? Wǒ tīng de bù tài dǒng.
哦，没关系没关系…… 你说什么？我听得不太懂。
Oh, it’s okay… I can’t quite understand what you said.
Jason: Sorry! I'm sorry! Are you okay?
Luna: Wǒ huì shuō yì diǎndiǎn Zhōngwén. Nǐ shì Zhōngguó rén ma?
我会说一点点中文。你是中国人吗？
I can speak a little Chinese. Are you Chinese?
Jason: Duì duì duì, wǒ shì Zhōngguó rén, wǒ jiào Jason. Nǐ ne?
对对对，我是中国人，我叫 Jason。你呢？
Yes, I’m Chinese. My name is Jason. What about you?
Luna: Wǒ jiào Luna, wǒ láizì Měiguó, wǒ zài zhèr xué Zhōngwén.
我叫 Luna，我来自美国，我在这儿学中文。
My name is Luna. I’m from America and I study Chinese here.
Jason: Wā, Měiguó péngyou! Nǐ Zhōngwén shuō de tǐng hǎo de.
哇，美国朋友！你中文说得挺好的。
Wow, American friend! Your Chinese is pretty good.
Luna: Bù hǎo bù hǎo, wǒ hái yǒu hěn duō bú huì de.
不好不好，我还有很多不会的。
Not really, there’s still a lot I don’t know.
Jason: Méi shì, mànman lái. Duì le, wǒ gēn nǐ shuō, gāngcái wǒ jìnlái de shíhou chàdiǎn shuāi yì jiāo, nà kě tài shèsǐ le.
没事，慢慢来。对了，我跟你说，刚才我进来的时候差点摔一跤，那可太社死了。
Take your time. I almost fell when I walked in just now—it was such an awkward moment.
Luna: Shèsǐ? Shèsǐ shì shénme yìsi? Shèhuì sǐ le ma?
社死？社死是什么意思？社会死了吗？
Social death? What does that mean? Does it mean social death?
Jason: Hāha bú shì, shèsǐ jiùshì hěn gāngà de yìsi, gāngà dào xiǎng zhǎo gè dìfèng zuàn jìnqù.
哈哈不是，社死就是很尴尬的意思，尴尬到想找个地缝钻进去。
Haha no. It describes extreme embarrassment, so awkward that you want to hide away.
Luna: Ó! Nà wǒ xiànzài shì bú shì shèsǐ le?
哦！那我现在是不是社死了？
Oh! Am I having a social death moment right now?
Jason: Méi yǒu méi yǒu, zhè bú suàn shénme. Zhèyàng ba, wǒ qǐng nǐ hē yì bēi xīn de kāfēi, suàn wǒ péizuì, zěnmeyàng?
没有没有，这不算什么。这样吧，我请你喝一杯新的咖啡，算我赔罪，怎么样？
Not at all. Let me buy you a new coffee to make up for it, okay?
Luna: Zhēn de ma? Tài hǎo le! Xièxie nǐ!
真的吗？太好了！谢谢你！
Really? That’s wonderful! Thank you!
