おしまいまでひいてしまうと狸の子はしばらく首をまげて考えました。
それからやっと考えついたというようにいいました。
 「ゴーシュさんはこの二番目の糸をひくときは きたいに遅おくれるねえ。
    なんだか ぼくがつまずくようになるよ。」
ゴーシュは はっとしました。たしかにその糸は どんなに手早く弾いても 
すこしたってからでないと音が出ないような気が ゆうべからしていたのでした。
 「いや、そうかもしれない。このセロは悪いんだよ。」
とゴーシュはかなしそうにいいました。
すると狸は気の毒そうにして またしばらく考えていましたが
 「どこが悪いんだろうなあ。では もう一ぺん弾いてくれますか。」
 「いいとも弾くよ。」
ゴーシュは はじめました。
狸の子はさっきのように とんとん叩きながら 時々頭をまげて セロに耳をつけるようにしました。
そしておしまいまで来たときは 今夜もまた東がぼうと明るくなっていました。
 「ああ夜が明けたぞ。どうもありがとう。」
狸の子は大へんあわてて 譜や棒きれをせなかへしょって ゴムテープでぱちんと とめて
おじぎを二つ三つすると 急いで外へ出て行ってしまいました。
ゴーシュはぼんやりして しばらくゆうべのこわれたガラスから はいってくる風を吸っていましたが、
町へ出て行くまでねむって 元気をとり戻もどそうと 急いで ねどこへもぐりこみました。
