Tips and suggestions to help your first lesson with a tutor or teacher run smoothly: Read their profile: A lot of people just watch the intro video or even less…they just look at the persons profile picture and think the person looks nice so they choose them to take a lesson with. A tutor or teacher’s profile has good information. Don’t blindly pick a random tutor or teacher based on price or their country location: again read their profile and watch their intro video. You’re paying for the lesson. Do some research about the tutor or teacher before choosing them. Read their lesson description: Look at the different lessons available and read the lesson descriptions. Please show up to the lesson on time: I’m sure all tutors and teachers on Italki would appreciate if you show up to the lesson right when the lesson is scheduled to start. According to Italki rules for tutors and teachers we must be there at least a few minutes before the lesson starts to prepare for the students arrival. If you know you’ll be a few minutes late to a lesson, show common courtesy by reaching out to the tutor or teacher to let them know that ahead of time. Have good internet connection: Teachers or tutors have a bit more of a difficult time giving a learner help with their target if the student's internet cuts out every few minutes. Have the least amount of distractions possible during the lesson: If you’re in a busy shopping district with a bunch of people talking in the background while you’re on your cell phone trying to take a lesson, that may not be the best idea, even if it’s just for conversation. You want to make sure your tutor or teacher can clearly hear you. Even if you’re not wanting corrections, it’s confusing to some tutors or teachers if they can hear you and other voices in your audio background. Reach out to your tutor or teacher before the lesson if you haven’t filled out the lesson inquiry and be honest and upfront about what help you’re wanting.
