As mentioned, I believe having a native grasp in both English and Spanish is an advantage. It allows me to easily translate idiomatic concepts and expressions that don’t have literal equivalent from one language to the other. I can draw meaning from my native understanding of both languages (and my experience in using both in daily life) to find the right examples and the closest translations from the source to the target language. I studied linguistics and, even though it is generally not required for a language teacher to be trained in linguistics, there is a growing number of experts in the community who believe it's a huge plus.
