Aspirated and Borrowed Sounds: Kh, Gh, Bh, F and Z | Spoken Malayalam #009

Omschrijving
Some Malayalam words are spelled with an h after a consonant: sukham, bhakshanam, dhairyam. English speakers either ignore the h completely, or they say it as a separate, heavy "h", so ഭക്ഷണം (bhakshanam) = food comes out as "b-ha-kshanam". At the other end, they expect English loanwords like "fan" and "zip" to keep their English f and z, and get confused when relatives say "phaan" or "sip". In this episode: • What an aspirated sound is • Where these sounds live • Relaxed speech softens the puff • English sounds in malayalam • Listening scene • Language bridge • Practice • Self-check questions with answers Key phrases from this episode: സുഖം (sukham) = well-being, comfort മുഖം (mukham) = face ഭക്ഷണം (bhakshanam) = food, a meal ഭാഷ (bhaasha) = language ധൈര്യം (dhairyam) = courage കഥ (katha) = story മേഘം (megham) = cloud സുഖമാണോ?
