I wrote this crazy anecdote that I lived with my friend Nicolas. In order not to make it longer than it already is, I divided it into 2 parts. This 1st one is about how we went on vacation without knowing that we were not going to return to our destination, thanks to the coronavirus. Cancelled tickets, chaotic airports, and an exotic country .
In the 2nd: how we got a ticket to get out of there, how they didn't want to put us up anywhere and how I ended up in Ezeiza (Argentina's main airport) on top of a bus with people I didn't know.

In this chapter Mrs. Frisby saves a crow named Jeremy and rides on its back to safety. Jeremy tells Mrs Frisby she can call on him for help in the future.

Mrs Frisby looked again at the sun and saw that she faced an unpleasant choice. She could go home by the same roundabout way she had come, in which case she would surely end up walking alone in the woods in the dark — a frightening prospect, for at night the forest was alive with danger. Then the owl came out to hunt, and foxes, weasels and strange wild cats stalked among the tree trunks. The other choice would be dangerous, too, but with luck it would get her home before dark. That would be to take a straighter route, across the farmyard between the barn and the chicken house, going not too close to the house but cutting the distance by half. The cat would be there somewhere, but by daylight — and by staying in the open, away from the shrubs — she could probably spot him before he saw her.
The cat: He was called Dragon. Farmer Fitzgibbon’s wife had given him the name as a joke when
he was a small kitten pretending to be fierce. But when he grew up, the name turned out to be an apt one. He was enormous, with a huge, broad head and a large mouth full of curving fangs, needle sharp. He had seven claws on each foot and a thick, furry tail, which lashed angrily from side to side. In colour he was orange and white, with glaring yellow eyes; and when he leaped to kill, he gave a high, strangled scream that froze his victims where they stood.

SWE44 Travel part 3: Carry-on vs Checked in Luggage

This is my story of the first trip to India.  Please listen to me my experience in the South India.
 
みなさんこんにちは。　日本語教師の名谷有子です。
今日は6月21日です。　2024年ももう半年がすぎようとしていますね。
この半年を振り返ると、いろいろありましたが、中でも一番のビッグイベントが
人生はじめてのインド旅行です。
南インド出身の友人が　妹さんの結婚式で帰国するのにあわせて、1週間インドに滞在しました。
4月18日の深夜、チェンナイ空港に到着。
空港の外に出たとたん、サッとメガネがくもるぐらい　ねっとりと熱い空気につつまれました。
もう夜の11時を過ぎているというのに、空港の周りは　人と車でいっぱいでした。
空港近くのレストランで　お茶を飲もうということになり　立ち寄りましたが、レストランの中も人がいっぱいでした。　どの人たちも食事をしながら家族や友人と熱心に話しをしていました。たぶん、外国人は私たちだけだったと思います。
それから、貸し切りタクシーで　友人の家に向かいました。　友人の家は、カンチ―プラムという町でチェンナイ空港から1時間半ぐらいのところでした。
走り出した車の中から見たインドの町の印象は、とにかくにぎやかでした。車のクラクションの音があちこちで聞こえて、日本とは違うなあと思いました。　また、残念なことに　道路脇に　たくさんのゴミがほったらかしにされているのが目に入ったことです。　どうして、あんなにゴミが落ちているのか　ちょっと理解できませんでした。空港の中は　とてもきれいだったので、なおさら　不思議でした。
高速道路に入るまでの道には、わざと障害が作ってありました。たぶん、スピードを出し過ぎないようにするためだと思います。その障害を越えるたびに、車が大きく揺れるので　ちょっと大変でした。
それでも、長旅で疲れていた私はそのあとすぐ眠ってしまいました。
たぶん、友人の家に到着したのは　深夜1時を回っていたと思いますが、友人のお父さん、お母さんが笑顔で出迎えてくれました。ベッドとエアコンがある一番過ごしやすい部屋を私たちに使わせてくれました。
そして、自分たちは　居間に布団を敷いて　並んで休まれました。　「申し訳ないなあ」と思いながらも、
固いフロアに布団だけ敷いて寝ることはできそうになかったので、そのまま　その一番いい部屋を使わせてもらうことにしました。
次の日の朝　５時すぎ、誰かが起きはじめました。　誰だろうと思い、部屋からのぞくと　友人のお母さんがすっかり身なりを整えて、家の前のそうじを始めました。「あ！これは！」と思った私は、パジャマ姿のまま急いでお母さんの後について表に出て行きました。
家の前をほうきできれいにはいて、水をまき、そして、コーラムを　ライスパウダーで描き始めました。
そう！これを見たかったんです。　
以前、新年のお祝いの朝に友人のお母さんが描いたコーラムを写真で見せてもらってから、どうやって描くのか実際に見てみたかったんです。　もちろん、スマホで動画で撮りました。
まず、パウダーでドットを描き、それを基準にして一つのパターンを描きます。
つぎに、その同じパターンを　90度ずらしたところにも描きます。
それを四方から繰り返し、パターンを重ねるように描いていきます。
あっという間です。5分もかからないで、複雑なパターンのコーラムが描きあがりました。
アーチ型の玄関と明かりに、真っ白なライスパウダーで描かれたコーラムのコンビネーションが絶妙で
とてもきれいでした。　インドの美を感じられる瞬間でした。　
さて、私のインド旅行のお話は始まったばかりです。
これから1週間の私のインドでの体験は　すこしずつお話させていただきますね。
