😑What is the difference between Suprasegmental Phonology and segmental phonology? I wrote donw this, because I read a text, but don't really understand it... Segmental phonology: Ø has to do with the individual sounds of the language (phonemes) Ø and the differences in conceptual or semantic meaning (buck, duck: both are animals but very different). The words denoting the creatures are identical except for the phonemes /b/ and /d/ Suprasegmental phonology: Ø has to do with the contrasts Ø They are concerned (beteiligt) with differences in: stress, rhythm, intonation Ø These differences attitudinal (einstellungsbezogenes) meaning Ø The suprasegmental features of language involve those phenomena that extend over one sound segment
