What is the difference between past and participle?

"Past" usually means the Simple Past tense. Every verb in English has two participles: a present participle that is used in the continuous tenses and a past participle that is used in the perfect tenses. There are no irregular present participles, but the past participles of irregular verbs simply have to be memorized. For regular verbs, the past participle takes the same form as the Simple Past form.
